Position Summary

 The Family Nurse Practitioner evaluates, plans, and provides comprehensive patient care independently or in autonomous collaboration with other health care and addiction treatment professionals. This position provides comprehensive health assessment, medical diagnosis of acute and chronic illness, writes prescription and formulates a treatment plan with an emphasis on health promotion, addiction medicine, disease prevention, and disease management, and completes blood draws as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct Admission PE and Annual PE for patients in treatment for opioid dependence
  • Document rationale for initial dose, and dose changes.
  • Evaluate methadone treatment for opioid dependence and adjust dose as appropriate
  • Educate clients regarding at risk behavior
  • Monitor pregnant patients receiving methadone and adjust dose as appropriate
  • Counsel and educate patients to improve effectiveness of treatment for opioid dependence
  • Collect and tag specimens as ordered
  • Properly package each specimen and ensure that every specimen is delivered to the lab on time.
  • Maintain an organized and clean work area.
  • Order, perform and evaluate basic laboratory test results. Order and evaluate other laboratory procedures, and interpret results.
  • Provide referrals to local providers when services are not available at the clinic.
  • Provide education and support for RN and LPN dosing nurses. Establish and maintain a network of collaborative relationships with private physicians, IHS, and health service providers

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of professional Medical theory and practices.
  • Ability to apply medical techniques to patient care in clinic situations.
  • Ability to maintain harmonious working relationships with other employees.
  • Ability to maintain complete casework confidentiality.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with clients, contractors, health resource staffs, IHS, etc.
  • Working knowledge of addiction treatment and addiction
  • Culture: Must have cultural sensitivity and be able to incorporate Native American community values in the health care process.

   Position Qualifications

  • Successful completion of an accredited Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner Program specializing in Family Practice.
  • Licensed as an ARNP in Washington state and have prescriptive authority or be eligible.
  • ARNP experience in addictions treatment.
  • Ability to pass criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen.
  • WA state Driver’s license and ability to be approved by Tribal insurance to drive Tribal vehicles.
