Environmental and Natural Resources (ENR) Plant Specialist will work with the Outreach Program Manager and the Department Director to help develop and implement educational programming and outreach around the Snoqualmie Community Garden and Native Plant Landscaping Installations.

Essential Functions:

Duties of the ENR Plant Specialist include working on the following tasks:

Native Plant Nursery

  • Performing inventory counts
  • Starting seeds and transplanting existing plants
  • Weeding and maintaining nursery beds

Tribal Community Garden

  • Coordinating with the Outreach Manager to organize and manage work parties
  • Maintaining pathways and beds through weeding
  • Working with the Outreach Manager on developing educational activities to better connect plants and people

Native Plant Landscaping

  • Maintaining plant health through weeding
  • Coordinating with Culture Department and Outreach Manager to help organize harvests

Educational opportunities provided

  • Learn about traditional uses of native plants by Northwest Tribes
  • Learn about ecological restoration approaches and philosophies
  • Learn field identification of native and non-native plant species.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form
  • Ability to work with a team, takes initiative, and communicates clearly with team members
  • Highly motivated individual capable of working independently without supervision
  • Must be proficient with computers and general office equipment
  • Strong interest in Habitat Restoration, Native Plant ID, Propagation and Gardening
  • Must pass a background check
  • Must agree to be subject to the Tribe's Controlled Substance and Alcohol Testing Policy to include pre-employment screening.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Driver’s license
  • Knowledge of Pacific Northwest Native Plants
  • Gardening experience/proven interest in sustainable agriculture, gardening, native plants, traditional foods, etc.
  • High School Diploma or equivalency is desired. Enrolled or plans to enroll in or recently graduated from a secondary educational program is desired

Additional Information: 

  • This is an temporary hourly, full-time position and employment is at-will. Expected duration of the position is one year. 
  • Pay DOE, starts at 15.56+ per hour.
  • Eligible for competitive medical, dental, life, and disability insurance benefits the first of the month following date of hire, if working 30 or more hours per week.
  • 401k retirement plan with employer matching contributions after 90 days of employment.
